I finished this quilt up just in time for my new niece Elinor to be born last month. I made this top back in OCTOBER (could it really have been that long ago?) and I've been saving it for a special someone to gift it to.
I backed this one in a violet pink minky to match the front, and I sent it to Kathy for quilting. I added a thick batting to this one, so I was a little wary to quilt it myself with the minky plus batting...and Kathy did a beautiful job with simple pink loopty loops. I machine bound this one as I do with all my minky backed quilts (it's tricky to hand stitch through!) using this method. With loose quilting the quilt isn't stiff at all, but has a nice weight to it that I love.
There is NOTHING in this world better than a newborn. I've been hogging her every chance I get.
A tutorial for the cross stitch blocks can be found here, and my previous post about this quilt is here. Happy weekend!

So pretty: I love the added effect that the alternating backgrounds give and the lovely raspberry prints!! And your niece is beautiful: just look at all that hair!! :-) My babies had hair like that too. :-)
Have a great weekend!! Hugs, H

soooo.... question. Could I do this with a layer cake and a charm pack?
Allison
The sizing would be different than mine but I'm sure you could use the same methods and use a charm pack or layer cake!

That is a fabulous quilt, I love, love your choice of fabric colors, so inspiring with that pattern!

It turned out beautifully! Your niece will love it. What do you use when you want a thick batting? I've had a hard time finding thicker batts.
Allison
Thick was probably a bad word for it Jocelyn...they are more dense, not thick. Quilters Dream batting makes some great options including a polyester thin dense batting that I love and is so warm!
Amber
Gorgeous! Absolutely gorgeous! I love the contrast between the warm and cool colors, as well as the pattern. Beautiful job!

Beautiful and so inspiring! Love how you alternated the scrappy aqua and white squares and used the complementary scrappy "cross-stitches." Bet she will love this quilt as she grows, especially with that minky!

I love the colour combination and alternating backgrounds! You always inspire me with your quilts! May I ask what the finished size of a block was?
Allison
I believe it was 5 1/2 or 6"...I don't have the quilt handy to measure but I think that was it!
Jennie
The quilt is beautiful, and I love the kinky on the back. I think I'd worry about quilting it myself too. She did a really beautiful job of quilting it. Allison your are so right babies are the best things. They smell so sweet. I can't wait for grand babies. Maybe soon.
