    Something New

    Apr 1, 2009

When I really started sewing I remember saying that I would never sew my own clothes. Never. Ever. Ever. Mostly because I can't follow a pattern worth a dang. Also because I pictured myself looking like a mega granola Mom in my handmade outfit walking through Whole Foods.
Now I'm eating my words and loving my new ($4 !!!) top.

    New Top, Simplicity #3835

The pattern is the oh so popular simplicity #3835 Built by Wendy. There are blogs and
flickr groups devoted to these patterns, so I figured its a good start. Just don't expect to see me in handmade pants anytime soon (besides pajamas), or vests, or jackets, or underwear, or anything with puff paint.

    New Top, Pattern #3835, Simplicity

Note....if you make this pattern make it big. Luckily I read this tip online before cutting mine. I normally wear a medium in shirts, so I cut this at a size 10 thinking it would be big. I still had to use a smaller seam allowance to make it bigger. Next time I'll cut it at a 12, so be warned it is small!

I love this! I've seen a couple other shirt patterns that kinda look to roomie-this is perfect. It reminds me of the shirts I made my girls for Valentine's. Goint to have to get this pattern!

Your right! I made a version of the dress into a shirt (because I wanted the contrasting yoke) and the sleeves are too tight!

I said the same thing when I started sewing again in earnest. I have long since eaten those words and this pattern was also my first foray. It is a slippery slope...see you in whole foods.

You too, eh! I've said the same thing but if I keep seeing wonderful patterns like this one, I'm going to be right behind you.

Totally adorable! That's nothing like a hippy-dippy granola mom in a 4-yard skirt buying tofu. That is one hott mama!

Very cute! I used to sew my girls' clothes when they were little but always got so frustrated with my own things. I think this would turn out ok if I made it for myself too.

I love your new top! Looks like a good fit. I think I might have that pattern, but I haven't tried it yet. I never know what size to start with.

I've made a couple dresses from this pattern. They fit so well. Lera from http://theskyispink.blogspot.com/ has made many dresses from the pattern and suggested laying the back on the fold instead of using a seam. It works great. Love the top
