    Summer Skirt

    May 20, 2009

IMG_8774 Patterns and I have a hate-hate relationship. I loathe them, they might as well be written in Arabic. So while I was home my one sewing goal was to pick my Mom’s pattern loving brain and figure out how to make this skirt. We made a trial run first, which was good since I tend to like my skirts to hang around my hips and not way up yonder. So after a couple small alterations I had myself a nice summery skirt. Now that I’m feeling more confident with my pattern following skills I’m going to make myself this little number. Totally Joking….although its very sassy. And the best part? I match my Mom’s kitchen curtains. Now Vanessa and I can skip around the yard in our Sound of Music-ish skirts together. How about it Vanessa? You wear the table cloth and I’ll wear the curtains.
IMG_8782And as you can tell we made it back to Cleveland safely. Ben was an angel on the plane and we managed the whole trip without any cranky old man looks in our direction. Which might be a first. :)

That's so cute! I bought the same fabric for a big polka dotted quilt I'm making (the blocks have a circle within the square). I love a good pleated skirt.

Patterns give me the heeby-geebies too! You inspire me to give it a go, though. That skirt is too cute! Welcome home!

Adorable, as both the skirt and valance. Now maybe your little one needs a matching sun hat - or board shorts? Very cute!

I love the skirt, the fabric is great! What's wrong with that swimsuit pattern? It's so "stylish" and "hip", and probably super flattering when home sewn! HaHa LOL ;-)

Love it! Makes me want to get over my pattern phobia so I can join the skipping and singing. (OK, maybe just the skipping)

and I am SO the opposite! If I don't have a pattern I'd end up with three sleeves and no neck hole! The skirt turned out awesome! I saw this fabric and passed it up, but now I think I need to go back!

I hate patterns too! But the fabrics I can buy are nicer than the skirts I can buy. It is so tempting - especially this pattern. Really, was it hard? I can follow directions if I have to.

I have a car seat cover with this same fabric. My friend has a nursing cover with this, too. We should all go on a walk together. Then, hang out in your mom's kitchen. :)
