This is one of my favorite things about this area….wild blackberries.  They grow around the perimeter of our yard, you could pick them all day and not get them all.  Now my hands are stained purple and my arms are scratched like I was holding a wild cat, but its all worth it cause these babies are sweet as can be.  And the bugs and spiders just add to the flavor…… I only wish I was kidding.  :) P1060059-1 Soon these will be jam and pies and frozen for milkshakes to last all year and then some.   And blackberry milkshakes make great purple mustaches…..  IMG_8687 Hopefully by next post I’ll have something crafty to show you, but until then these “filler” posts will have to do!  :)

LOL fun isn't it. Unfortunately all wild blackberries in Australia are sprayed so we can no longer pick them.
    Cute photo!

My dad has picked what we affectionately refer to as 30 pies (quarts) of wild blackberries this season. They are worth their weight in gold in our family and you must get his permission to pull a bag of them from the freezer to use. I really hate picking them but they are so good!

I'm a newbie to homemade jam. Tried it with strawberries for the first time this summer and am completely hooked. I bet blackberry jam would be simply awesome. Too bad I can't find the sweet ones you describe round here. Limited to tart ones from Costco when we can get them. :(

The purple mustache guy is precious. Our blackberries are ripening all around us, but our goats get what we don't catch. It's like candy to them.

My husband has told me that we've got berries growing in the far edge of our backyard but I don't wish to go poking around there because I'm afraid of the wildlife that'll find me hehe!

YUM! And what an adorable little guy! You know, I love coming here and seeing a fresh post, but I don't get flipped out that there's not something new AND craft related (like some blogs – can you image THAT pressure?!). I mean really, you have a family, a husband, a real-life. I'd rather just pop by later and hear that you were "living" and not busting your behind to come up with something new and crafty to share with the blogosphere. Enjoy the journey…the time passes too quickly!

I have to admit that the blackberries in the northwest are one of the things I miss most living here now in the desert.

    Thanks so much for sharing!

Oh you are one lucky gal! People hoard those wild blackberries here more than we do our fabric :)
