Ben was a bat, and I was a pregnant witch. A witch who should have worn sneakers instead of really tight dress shoes. And extra points for my husband Jay who dressed up as Shrek……….he’s a brave soul. Its tough to be green. Especially when we realized very few parents dress up. We are dorks.
We got through the night with no tantrums and no jawbreakers in the treat bag….so I’d call it a success. Hope you all had a Happy Halloween!
P.S. Thanks to all who voted for my fall pillow tutorial over at the Sew Mama Sew blog... you guys are awesome!

You all look awesome! Your weather doesn't look too bad either. It was 33 degrees C in South Australia!

That's dumb that no parents dressed up anymore! I wish I had been there cuz I was dressed up tonight...sort of! Can't wait to see you SOON!

your baby will remember when HIS parents were cool and that's the important thing...you guys are way to cool.

Ditto.....you guys are the cool parents! I used to dress up sometimes when I took my children out but we were in the country and most times I had to be in the car so we could hurry and get out of someones driveway so another car could make it in the drive.
Seems trick-or-treating is a lost art around this area. I was told that there were hardly any out last night. I had 3 total.....2 of them my grandkids!!!

You guys look fantastic! And your husband is a *fantastic* Shrek!!

Your husband looks great green. And I like your pregnant witch legs. Poor feet:( The bat's a sweety. My husband dressed up as a ninja to go with our little Evil Diva. My 2 year old boycotted so I dressed as a witch to hand out candy. It's all good:) Thanks for sharing the pics.

I think your children will love you for tagging along in costumes.

Love the Shrek costume! And, I so voted for your pillow...it's wonderful!

Great costumes for all three of you. I can't decide which one I like the best, the pregnant witch with striped stockings and stylish shoes, the adorable bat (gotta love those wings), or the green man! I hope you inspire more parents to wear costumes next year.

I love that you dressed up!

I love the Shrek outfit. I think its sad that more of us big kids don't dress up for Halloween. Scott and I dressed up with Soren for our ward party (Soren was Mario, Scott Luigi and I was Princess Peach). It was a little uncomfortable when we realized we were the only adults who dressed up. But whatever - its fun! When else do you get to?
Emily
Shrek is awesome! Me and my husband dress up, too...So we'll be dorks with you. :)

I came over to congratulate you for your winning entry. I loved those pillows when they first appeared on your blog and I thank you for sharing how you made them. Great costumes!
I Love Baby Quilts!
Your hubby looks great! He needs more of a gut to be Shrek though ;) Check out my blog to see the handmade costume my daughter wore!
Jessica
Love the costumes! My little guy is really into Shrek right now, so I'll have to show your husband's costume to him (he loves bats too!).
Congrats on winning the SMS contest...yours was my favorite entry, even more than my own. :)
Valerie
A big congrats on your SMS win!!!!! And you all are not dorks by a long shot -- I thought it was so fun when I saw parents dressed up yesterday and wished I had a costume to wear, too. Next year...

That is wonderful that you and hubby dressed up with your son. That's the type of thing that makes memories.

ha! shrek! that's an awesome costume. :)

You aren't dorks - We do it too. We usually do matching costumes. We were Shrek, Fiona and our daughter was donkey one year. Kids kept coming up and hugging my husband. It was hilarious and odd at the same time! You guys are awesome!
Allie
You all look great! Looks like fun to me!
Andy
You guys aren't the dorks. The parents who don't bother getting into the spirit of Halloween - THEY'RE the dorks! That Shrek costume is great.

shrek made me laugh out loud - in a good way - that is a fantastic costume!
Rae
my hubs was a shrek, too. Isn't that green make-up the worst? (http://onmyowntwohands.blogspot.com/2009/10/halloween-2009-costumes.html ) kudos to him for doing it on the hands, too!
Just discovered your blog today- super cute. off to subscribe!

All three of you look super cute! I especially like Jay's costume! We also made it through The Day with no tantrums! I was utterly surprised...as it has been a tradition for my oldest to request a costume, causing me to diligently craft away, and finally for him to pitch a huge fit about the resulting costume and then REFUSE to wear it! The times they are a changin'.

not dorks! Just really cool!
Every year I say that next year the kids will have to pick their costumes sooner because they usually end up picking out costumes that either the store bought ones suck or they can't be found.

why don't more parents dress up? we do. we do family themes. It's great. my husband has the next four years planned out. This year we did Peter Pan and he loved being Hook, the star of the show... over 100$ for the fabrics etc for the costume!
