Off Track….literally

Yes….this is my second quilt top in these colors in two weeks, but I really love these colors together!!!   This top is from a pattern/quilt I made for the Robert Kaufman booth at market.   My husband named it Off Track.
Only after basting half of it did I finally notice that it really is off track See?
How in the heck did I miss that???!!!! Luckily the “oops” block was in the bottom row so it was an easy unpick…but still worth a grumble and rolling of the eyes by yours truly.

ha! I would have left it…kind of like the mistake chose to be there because of the name!

  2. Pieces of Sunshine May 6, 2011 at 11:17 am #

You could have left it as a "Humility block", especially as it is't in the middle.

  3. Jenn May 6, 2011 at 11:18 am #

I'm with Dianne on that one – clever thought! Also, I never would have noticed had you not pointed it out! I love those colors, too!!! Gorgeous!

  4. Deb May 6, 2011 at 11:18 am #

They say all quilts made with love have a mistake! It's very cute and I like the pattern a lot!

  5. Kristine May 6, 2011 at 11:32 am #

  6. Melissa May 6, 2011 at 11:58 am #

Wow, so now we know you are not perfect! I feel so much better. Just kidding, I would have changed it too, it would have bugged me. It is a beautiful quilt, I love the pattern too, it really shows off the fabrics.

  10. Raechel May 6, 2011 at 12:27 pm #

I think the color combo is great, I would never be brave enough to put all those colors together. Will you be sharing this pattern?

  11. Jane May 6, 2011 at 12:31 pm #

I wouldn't know what to do if I didn't make errors like that all the time! Your quilt is lovely!

  12. Toni May 6, 2011 at 12:43 pm #

I love how it looks like your little boy is laughing at your mistake! I pretty much get off track in everything I sew…

  19. angie May 6, 2011 at 1:50 pm #

I probably never would have noticed it….but I am pretty tired :) I can't wait to meet you at market!

  20. Bonny May 6, 2011 at 1:51 pm #

You should leave it – it is like Diana's famous sheep sweater….

  21. quiltilicious May 6, 2011 at 2:05 pm #

But I actually like 'oops' blocks – I think they add a bit or character and originality to a quilt…though I may be in the minority on this one!

  22. Carla May 6, 2011 at 2:10 pm #

That always happens to me. No matter how much planning I do. I still think it looks great.

  23. Kelly O. May 6, 2011 at 2:33 pm #

don't you hate mishaps like that! last night I sewed 8 or more stack n'whack blocks (the last piece as I was chain piecing) with no thread in the bobbin. DUH!

  24. Justcallmeblessed May 6, 2011 at 3:02 pm #

Youre supposed to just say, "I meant to do that!" :) Cute quilt! You are very talented!

  25. Staci May 6, 2011 at 3:05 pm #

Darling quilts though, thanks for sharing them with us!

  26. diane May 6, 2011 at 3:10 pm #

I would have left it. I like an oops in a quilt, and believe me I have plenty of them. But, I love the pattern. Great colors, too.

  27. Mego May 6, 2011 at 3:17 pm #

You could have left it in and called it a 'post' modern quilt…love it!

  28. María Xi May 6, 2011 at 3:27 pm #

I love your quilt, even with what you show with the arrows is very good.
    Warm greetings from Chile.

  31. kelly May 6, 2011 at 3:41 pm #

beautiful! what i love the most about denyse schmidt's collections is how they work together as a whole… individually i don't always see how the fabrics are going to work together to be magic, but they always are! and your additional selections just add to that magic.

  32. Anessa May 6, 2011 at 4:28 pm #

I am surprised it doesn't seem anyone has asked yet or maybe I missed it but… Where can I get the pattern ?

  33. lifeinredshoes May 6, 2011 at 4:54 pm #

    It gives it character :)

  34. Nickname unavailable May 6, 2011 at 5:04 pm #

  35. suemac May 6, 2011 at 5:10 pm #

At least you notice it before you put the borders on.

  36. matate10 May 6, 2011 at 5:50 pm #

I had one hanging in a show before I saw the oops. I didn't win a prize. lol. Beautiful quilt.

  37. Paige May 6, 2011 at 5:54 pm #

  46. Sarah May 7, 2011 at 1:02 am #

  47. cherie godbey May 7, 2011 at 1:12 am #

That is stunning! Will you be selling the pattern soon? This would be perfect for my next quilt! Great job!

  48. Sonia May 7, 2011 at 1:29 am #

I like the color combo too! And look at the mistake this way: like it's a game. See if anyone notices…and if they do, say that it was on purpose ;)

  49. rilojane May 7, 2011 at 4:06 am #

Very cute- and I echo others' comments about the colors. I like it a lot. And what's up with those blocks that just don't end up in the right place??? HAHA! I just hate it when you get something all "completed" only to find out something moved when you weren't looking. ;)

  50. Bonnie May 7, 2011 at 4:47 am #

dlo you have a patten for this one? Simply gorgeous!!

  51. ywilma May 7, 2011 at 8:08 am #

  54. Judy May 7, 2011 at 6:04 pm #

I love this quilt! I would not have noticed either had you not put big black arrows there. I love these different colors and see many that I have. I wondered about this pattern but now I will buy it. See what a great quilter and inspiration you are!

  55. Judy May 7, 2011 at 9:29 pm #

I thought you had this pattern for sale but I don't see it. Would you make one up for us, Please? I sure would buy one from you. Thank you.

  56. Karen May 7, 2011 at 10:51 pm #

Cpmpletely understand why you used the same colours for two quilts. They are gorgeous colours together. Great pattern too.

  57. Aimee May 8, 2011 at 5:49 pm #

Too cute! Looks like you had a fun time taking pictures too!

  58. Jennifer Blosser May 8, 2011 at 10:45 pm #

Alison, I know by the time you read this, it will have been unpicked and fixed. I thought I'd share that in some sewing circles, my families included, purposeful mistakes are made in all our quilts. I reminds us that only God can make something perfect. It's an old tradition that I enjoy using today. It reminds me who is really in control.

    It's a lovely quilt!
    Hugs & stitches,
    Jennifer

  59. Helene May 9, 2011 at 5:58 am #

Allison you crack me up! Love the quilt though, with it's "personalized" tracks ;-)
