    Pillows…check!

    Sep 27, 2012

Today I was a pillow cover making machine.  In between being a laundry folding, floor mopping, breakfast (fruit snacks count right?)/lunch/dinner making, toy cleaning, kid scrubbing, baby loving, diaper changing machine…of course.
    IMG_5335_thumb[1]
I ordered fabric from fabric.com 2 weeks ago (2 WEEKS!) and it finally came today.  My white Ikea pillow forms are now a greyish-brown-peanut-butter-cheese-cracker-hands color from sitting bare on my couch for 2 weeks…so I quickly covered them up when the fabric came.
A few for the living room and a couple for the bed.
I cut a deal with my husband when we moved in this house…I get the spare room for sewing if he gets to put his ugly TV on the buffet (which he painted!) in the family room.  So I tried to beautify that big black eyesore…and I’m even starting to like it there (almost).
We live deep in the trees now…so while its beautiful, it is really hard to take good blog photos!
This was the family room 3 weeks ago.  GREEN!
Pillow fabrics: Blue dot, Grey Dandelion, Leaf Garland. The Ikea down pillow forms are only $6.99 and my favorite. Worth picking up a few if you ever get by an Ikea!

Beautiful pillows! And I love what you've done with your "eyesore". My husband wants to hang out over the mantle. Ugh. I'll have to check out Ikea for pillow forms. I need to make new ones to replace the well-worn ones on my couch.

Fabric.com always takes forever to ship for me too! But their prices and low threshhold for free shipping keeps me coming back. ;)

I'm trying to spruce up our eyesore the same way... except our eyesore is still rear-projection ;)

Fabric.com took over 20 days to ship to me last month, and then had the order wrong. Lucky for me, they don't communicate with each other so I got both a refund and the missed fabric!

I have fabric sitting here from Fabric.com for new pillows too! How about you sew those up for me?
My last order from them took FORever. I placed another order on Sunday and it shipped on MONDAY!! They must have gotten their act together.

Allison love the family makeover (and your pillow additions too!). I almost always buy from fabric.com and while they do 'ship' within 48 hours it always comes on the slow train taking about 5 days. Patience is a virtue they say and your pillows are proof, beautiful choices.

I love your new pillows. They look so nice & fresh. And I love that bed quilt we got a glimpse of!! I have your tutorial all printed out and am just trying to figure out what fabric to use. Your eye sore really does look good with a fresh coat of paint & the pretty collage of pictures around it. Small price to pay for your sewing room where you can close the door and get away from it all for a bit here & there! :) You've got such an eye for color & design!

Have you ever checked out Ikea's fabric? They have some beautiful stuff but I don't know what the quality is like.

My husband and I have that TV 'discussion' frequently. And to Jocelyn: I tried IKEA fabric and it wore out pretty quickly. It could have been a fluke, but I'm not confident enough to try it on a quilt or anything.

Did you use 100% cotton quilting fabric or did you use home decor weight fabric. I was toying with the idea of covering a few pillows too and couldn't decide between which weight of fabric would be best.

I see Ikea in my future. I'll be sure to check out the pillows. We need some new ones. Nice paint, I have several large walls if you are interested. I'm a pretty good babysitter. :-)

I pinned a tutorial on how to make a cover for a flat screen TV, that is an option! I agree, I would much rather not have a TV, it is so hard to find a good spot to put it. I still have one of those big, heavy dinosaurs!

My niece made 45" square pillows stuffed with foam pieces for her son. A nice fat, fluffy pillow he uses to flop down on the floor.

I used to be a crazy fabric.com fan. They're off my list. It took them over 2 weeks to ship my items, and then 2 weeks minus 1 day to let me know an item was out (an item critical to the whole project, so the whole order had to be returned). I'm done with them for a while. I'll take the smaller shops that understand customer service :)

So much better than the green! We hope to do some painting here too, and I totally understand the shade/light thing, as we lived in the woods of Northern Michigan for a few years.

I am simply in love with your blog!
Your 'eyesore' made me laugh out loud, we just moved two months ago and our deal was that he could have the upstairs loft for a mancave/game room and I could get a new pressure canner and have the spare room for crafts. Absolutely love your pillow cases! Will definitely be ordering fabric to do that again soon! Mine somehow ended up with a similar Greyish-jam colored tint to them!

Love your pillows!! I've been so busy making pillows for our girls, that I've neglected our own house. I need to to what you did and dedicate 1 whole day to pillow making.

I just covered 4 IKEA down pillows with vintage bark cloth for daughter number 1. Love those down pillows!! And the price, too.

I think your TV wall looks great. I guess I'm one of the few females that doesn't have a problem with a TV. The one in our living room is only 42" & I wish it were bigger! The bedrooms & sewing studio have smaller ones. Pillows, Pillows, Pillows ... I love 'em, but they usually end up in the closet 'cause they're always in the way when someone wants to sit down.

Great job! I love the stacks of quilts peeking out of the buffet! Hey, would you consider designing a quilt to showcase the fabrics that Ellen Medlock of Tulsa designs? She just opened a studio here and I love her fabrics but need a quilt design that really enhances them. I would love to see what your creative mind would do with her fabrics...

Alison, I usually don't comment much because I'm shy like that. But I am loving all of these pics of your house. It's so charming and lovely! It makes me want to finally decorate. I've been in my house for 2 years and most of my walls are pretty blank still. And by the way, I went to my D.I. to see if I could nab a fabulous dresser....it was pretty pathetic! I guess that's Provo for you, ha ha!

My husband inadvertently solved the TV eyesore problem for us. He was worried about dust settling on and into the TV so he asked me to make a fabric cover for it. Gladly! I picked some cute fabric that matched the rest of the house. Now the TV is not a big black hole, but a lovely accent.
