Backyard Blooms

Backyard Blooms fabric

It’s new fabric day!  I’m finally sharing my 7th fabric line with Windham Fabrics, Backyard Blooms.

It’s showing to Quilt Shops now, and will be available in stores late July (I’ll post here when you can buy it!).

The pretty denim color was the only new addition this time besides tweaking my basic favorite colors, and making things a bit more saturated and clean feeling.

I wanted it to look the way my house feels after I’ve finished cleaning it all day….right before my kids get off the bus ready to unclean it.  ;)

The large bunched rose print is my favorite.  I sat at my computer at night drawing it for 10393 hours and ate bags and bags and baaaags of this kettle corn while doing it.   It has a vintage/countryside/fresh look I love.

After I finished drawing up the whole line, it sat in my computer for a month or two before I worked up the courage to send it into Windham.  I’ve done this 7 times and it’s always scary to send in something you’ve spent SO much time on when there’s a big chance they won’t like it (spoiler…they liked it).  They always help me see things with clear eyes and we tweaked a few things, but I’m so happy with how it’s turned out and I couldn’t be more excited for this to hit stores.

I have 3 new quilt patterns I’ll get in my shop this weekend and share photos next week.  I enjoyed every second of sewing with this fabric and these colors!

My Mom whipped up this cute little dress for Jane (Simplicity pattern R10373), and then she refused to look at the camera in ANY pictures.  I had to laugh thinking about the picture of her in this post last year of my new fabric…where she was making a fist because she was mad at me and wouldn’t look at me.

She’s got spunk!

Oh and of course there is a print with chickens on it.  At some point I had to put chickens on fabric right?!  It’s just a given!

Thank you for letting me share Backyard Blooms with you and I’ll be sharing more next week!

My favorite too of all the new lines that I have seen a quite awhile. The colors, designs and the chickens thrown in are Definitely a throw back to my grandmother’s time… the 1940’s and later as I knew her. She was a farmers wife who loved gardening, quilting, and yes, her chickens. Love it Allison. (Going to start a piggy bank savings so I can buy a yard bundle without feeling any remorse come time that it hits the shelves. Way to go girl!!!

  29. Shasta January 25, 2020 at 11:48 am #

I am making a quilt with 30s fabrics in it and was thinking these would fit right in perfectly! Beautiful combinations of colors and patterns.

    • Allison January 27, 2020 at 9:42 pm #

These do remind me of 30’s!! They would fit right in!

  30. mary January 28, 2020 at 12:26 pm #

Do you happen to know fabric requirements to make Brightly in a king size would love to do in 30’s fabrics and make approximately 100 x120

    • Allison January 28, 2020 at 8:32 pm #

      Hi Mary,

You would really just be able to triple the material requirements that are given. If you do a layout of 9 blocks across and 10 blocks down (108″ x 120 finished before shrinkage) so that’s 90 blocks, and the throw size version in the pattern is 30 blocks. That should be perfect and just cut triple the amount!

I will be purchasing this line–its darling. I can’t get enough of your stars–I made two quilts last year with them. It looks like I will be making another. Well done my friend. You are my favorite pattern designer. Your instructions are so clear and easy to follow, Thank you so much.

    • Allison January 29, 2020 at 10:50 am #

What a sweet compliment! Thank you Cindy for making my day!

  32. Suzy Reno January 31, 2020 at 7:06 am #

Hi Allison- I went looking for the Simplicity pattern for the dress and I believe the pattern number has been changed since your mom made it for some reason. The number is now “Simplicity S9026”. The version your mom made is the sleeveless version (View D) on the pattern. I kept hitting roadblocks trying to find it and had to do some detective work but I finally figured it out. It’s so adorable! Just thought you might want to know since there were a lot of people who had asked about it. Here is the link to it on the Simplicity website: https://www.simplicity.com/simplicity-storefront-catalog/patterns/brands/simplicity-sewing-pattern-s9026-childrens-animal-applique-pocket-dress/
Love your blog, fabrics, and your patterns! Keep ’em coming! :)

    • Allison January 31, 2020 at 1:19 pm #

Oh I’m glad you found it! Thank you for letting me know! Yes you are right this is the correct pattern, I wonder if it’s because in our stores the packaging and books are older. Thanks for figuring it out!
