Fall Leaves Quilt Pattern

Fall Leaves Quilt Pattern

Yay for sewing fall quilts….my favorite!  I’ve had a maple leaf quilt on my “must make” list for years, and this was the year I finally made myself one.

The pattern is called Fall Leaves (remember how I am NOT a creative pattern namer?!).

I had such a hard time choosing fabrics for this quilt.  I ended up using a lot of fabrics from the Dear Isla collection by Cotton + Steel.  It’s a little hard to find, but the prints are perfect for a fall quilt like this.

I tried to make my maple leaf blocks as life like as possible while keeping them simple…I made so many versions of it before landing on this one!

Diagonal Seam Tape will save you HOURS when you make these blocks!  Whenever it says “mark a diagonal line” in the pattern…you can skip it and use the tape to get a nice straight seam.

I sent it off to Knot and Thread for quilting, she chose the most beautiful pattern on it that looks like wind blowing.

You can only see a tiny bit of the backing fabric in that photo above, but it’s a perfect color and print for a fall quilt.

Also there is bonus instructions in the pattern for this cute scrappy table runner.  The quilt uses fat quarters, which leave a lot of scraps…so instead of letting those scraps go to waste I added in an easy runner pattern on the last page.

My golden model is going to miss the kids SO much when they go back to school.  His whole life the kids haven’t been in school, and someone is constantly out playing with him…poor guy!

The Fall Leaves pattern can be found here as a PDF, or here as a Paper pattern.

I’ll be back posting another fun fall quilt very soon!

This is a nice variation on the traditional maple leaf.

Thanks Ellen. I love the traditional maple block too but I hate making half square triangles more! :)

Your leaf is so much more lifelike than the standard leaf block. Love it!

Thanks Carole! I tweaked it over and over and finally got to a block that I liked and looked more like a leaf!

EEEEK!! I LOVE THIS!!! I am crazy for fall and even though I have numerous quilts on the schedule and at least three right in front of me in various stages I NEED to make this quilt, at least one but probably more. I have also seen the PUMPKIN PATCHES pattern. What are you doing to me girl?

    • Allison August 19, 2021 at 10:59 pm #

LOL! I’m so glad I’m not the only one with fall quilt projects coming out of my ears. The only problem is now my fall quilts are done so I could finish patterns…and it’s not even fall yet! Must. Make. More!!!

So sorry I called you Kelly, Allison ….. I had just looked at another blog….and sometimes my fingers go faster than my brain does. 😊 But I do love your fall leaf quilt for sure.

It’s totally fine! Honestly most of the time people call me Amy and I never correct them. I am the worst with names, and especially when it’s an “online” person I’ve never met…forget it! ;)

You create the cutest patterns!!!! This one is a charmer for sure!

I love your patterns–they are easy to follow. I also love that I can get by without putting a border on. For some reasons borders are my least fave part. This is an adorable quilt and I am adding it to my wish list. I have loved your pumpkin quilt and made several adjusting for size: 3×3 pumpkins, 4×4 pumpkins, etc.. Your diagonal seam tape is a staple in my sewing room. Thank you.

Thank you! The pumpkin quilt is still my favorite…I just made another pumpkin quilt in a different pattern I’ll share next week. I just can’t stop the pumpkins!!

Thank you! The quilting is perfect, it gives it so much movement. Have a great day! -Allison

    The maple leaves are lovely.
I’ve been using the diagonal seam tape on a UFO—-I pencil marked the original sections and am using the tape now. What a time saver! I will actually get the butterfly quilt finished. Thank you for creating the tape.

I’m so glad it’s helpful for you!!! I love hearing that!

Pretty quilt and poor pooch. Will definitely be sad to have all the playmates gone all day. Boooo!

Love this pattern – can’t wait to get started! I’m going to use the blocks to make placemats and a runner. Waiting on my tape, it’s a must try.

    • Allison August 29, 2021 at 10:36 pm #

Oh that will be adorable as placemats and a runner!! Fabulous idea (I might have to copy you!).

This is lovely! Can you share the name of the quilting design?

    • Allison August 31, 2021 at 7:17 pm #

I believe she said it was called “harbour waves” but I’m not sure of the designer. It’s on her website I think knotandthreaddesign.com

Hi Allison! I have made quilts from several of your patterns now and I also love the diagonal seam tape! Could you share what fabric you used for the background of the leaf quilt? Thanks!
