(That cute needlepoint was a gift from Peggy Christenson and is one of my favorite possessions. And the sign was a gift from Andrea Hoke …it made my life complete.)
I’ve spent the last week or so shuffling around my sewing room, office space, kids bedrooms, and basically the entire house to bring my sewing stuff downstairs into our living room so my 12 year old could have his own room. So far it’s kind of like cooking in someone else’s kitchen…it feels a bit odd to be down on the main floor, but I also LOVE that I feel like I’m spending so much more time with my kids and I’m not hidden up in my sewing room! Plus it’s still nice and bright.
I brought down a little bit of my fabric, I’m trying to sort it as I bring it down and it’s slow going. Every time I move my fabric around I’m grateful that I’m a fairly “light stasher”! Eventually when I bring it all down I’ll make it look tidy and folded on the shelf…maybe.
As soon as everything was back in place I finished up my Shimmer blocks for April (Shimmer sew-a-long info can be found here!).
I obviously have a favorite block….isn’t that center cute? That fabric was leftover from a backing, the 108″ wideback by Lori Holt I purchased here. It’s a darker teal than it looks in my photo. Cutest backing ever. Also my yellow game is still going strong…I tried taking a break from the yellow but it didn’t last long.
I spent last month piecing up a storm so that I can share something new soon. Can’t wait to finish up the computer work (the worst) so I can share it!
I moved my sewing center down to the living room to free up a bedroom for my mother. Best move ever. I love that I’m downstairs so I don’t miss out on anything but my stuff is still off in an otherwise unused room. Keep using that yellow — I love the color of sunshine too!!
Thanks Sue! I’m loving it so far too!
Years ago I moved my whole sewing space down stairs to the room next to the kitchen. It is very bright and a huge ceiling lamp as well. One time my older daughter said “you should have done this long ago”
Now…. we are still in the “big house” and the girls are married and have their own new babies, so we have so much space it is crazy. Still, I love being on the main level all day, I love watching tv with retired hubbs, being next to the kitchen for snacks and sometimes try to make a decent meal.
Your blocks are beautiful!!!
That sign had your name written all over it!!
I moved sewing spaces a number of years ago. I wasn’t as selfless as you, I (literally) demanded the large bonus room that my boys had been sharing! Can’t imagine moving back into a shared space, as the kids always complained that I was “sewing too loud.” Here’s hoping the move works out for you!!
Hallo Allison!
