This is one of our most used quilts in our home, and one of my very favorite free tutorials I’ve written! Since I had it out anyways I decided to take some photographs of it, and make the old tutorial into a printable PDF.
I wrote the tutorial and made the quilt in 2012…does anyone else cringe when they read/look at their old writings? It’s slightly painful for me to read through some old blog posts. ;)
Anyways…here is a now printable version of the Strips and Squares Bed Quilt Tutorial:
Strips and Squares Bed Quilt Tutorial
The fabric was mostly Seaside by Riley Blake (hard to find now!), and the beautiful quilting was done freehand by Kathy.
I’ve seen so many beautiful variations of this made over the past 7 years. It looks good in everything, uses fat quarters or 1/4 yards, and includes 4 sizes!
Happy quilting! -Allison
Just printed this, and plan it to be a scrap quilt.
This will look great with scraps!
Thank you Allison! I have so many leftover backing pieces – this pattern would look lovely with them!
This is perfect for them!
Thank you for the pdf – I noticed the name change *squares & strips* is now *strips & squares* :)
LOL…I think it’s been lots of things over the years just because I can’t remember which is which!
Thank you for the pattern, Allison. I appreciate how your quilt patterns are so easy to follow and put together.
Thanks Sheila!
I love your Stripes and Squares Quilt! It’s sew fun and colorful! Thank you so much for the free pattern and tutorial!
Thanks Karen!
This is the “happiest” quilt I have ever seen…and my greatgrandmother was a quilter, making quilts by hand for all of us. It just brings a smile to my face to see it! Thank you for sharing, and I look forward to finding happy fabric to make one of my owen!
Agree w scrap quilt but love your colors!
I love this quilt pattern and was pretty sure I had used it before. Had to go look at my own blog to find it (was back in 2016!). It was a fun versatile pattern.
How funny!!
Thanks for your generosity in giving all of us a printable tutorial for this quilt. I have been planning to begin quilting for years, and I think this is a quilt that I can finally embrace (I do have a number of WIPs, sigh) and begin. It looks simple enough but with lots of variety, which is very appealing. I can choose favorite fabrics and colors from my stash and get busy today!!
Yes this is a good one to start with! The cutting is a little difficult but you can cut the pieces from larger pieces of fabric if you need to.
Thank you for this quilt tutorial. Looks like fun! I, too, plan on using scraps for this.
This is a great one for scraps!
Thanks Allison ! The pdf is so handy :)
I’m so glad!
Thank you for sharing this. I’ve already got a bunch of blocks made so this will help me immensely with all my scraps.
I’m so glad it helped!
This pattern is the essence of a great scrappy quilt.
Thanks!
